Benefits of Running

 

Running and walking is a wonderful form of exercise.  It requires little equipment (only a good supportive pair of shoes and comfortable, breathable clothing).  As with any form of exercise, it is important to consult with your physician before entering any new running/walking program. 

 

Running can provide you with numerous benefits in your overall life.  These benefits can be broken into two categories: physical and emotional.

 

Physical Benefits – Running can improve one or many physical aspects in an individual’s life.  Some of those include:

 

1. Improved cardiovascular health

2. Lower cholesterol

3. Lower blood pressure

4. Weight loss

5. Improved endurance

6. Increased level of energy

7. Lower risk factors for diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis,         obesity, and even some forms of cancer

 

Emotional Benefits – Running can also impact your emotional state. Some of these benefits include but are not limited to:

 

1. Stress reducer

2. Release of tension in body

3. Improves self-image

4. Good social outlet— Finding a running partner or meeting people at races

5. Decreased anxiety

6. Decreased depression
